Protein is the most underconsumed macronutrient among the professionals I work with in Vancouver, and it is the one that would make the biggest difference for most of them.
Not because protein is magic. Because adequate protein is what allows the strength training work to actually show up as muscle, and what keeps hunger manageable enough that the rest of nutrition does not become a fight.
The practical target for most people over 35 who are resistance training is around 0.7 to 1 gram per pound of bodyweight per day. Most of my new clients are getting about half that.
You do not need to track it obsessively. You need to make it the anchor at every meal and let the rest follow.
This is one of the first things I address in the nutrition coaching component of every program I build for clients across Coal Harbour, Yaletown, Gastown, and Downtown Vancouver.
