First day of my 2nd semester and first day at my new job! For those that don’t know I have accepted a position as a Clinical Trials and Grants Specialist at the Anschutz Medical Campus. The same campus I am getting my MPH degree. I am excited to start this new journey and start another semester of grad school. Can’t believe how quickly time flies! Anyone else starting their semester today?

Here is a simple breakdown of what the whole application looks like. I felt that breaking it down makes it easier to look at without feeling inundated with information. ⁠⠀

Remember that all this information is also available via the SOPHAS Help Center in more depth. I highlighted the important stuff so you can save this post for reference. I do urge anyone using the SOPHAS application to look through their FAQ's. ⁠⠀

If you are anything like me, you are dreading the process and already want it to be over. It indeed can feel a bit overwhelming for some, especially if you are still finishing your undergrad (like myself). ⁣⁠⠀

I created this timeline based on the SOPHAS FAQ page. This can help you write some important dates in your planner and prioritize different sections of the application (I will make a post breaking down each section next week :). We got this! ⁣⁠⠀

SOPHAS Applications for the 20-2021 application cycle open in just 1 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤! I am excited, yet anxious at the same time to start the process. ⁣⁣

I know it can feel a bit overwhelming, so I decided to create this infographic on how to “Build your MPH Application.” This breaks down all the components required for most MPH programs. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
1.) 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬: this one is a biggie, make sure you are up to date with early application deadlines for all your programs! Some can be as early as December 1st and others as late as February. ⁣
⁣
2.) 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐬: Yes, all transcripts are required, even if you were only at a school for one course. ⁣
⁣
3.) 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞/𝐂𝐕: Depending on the type of experience you have you may choose to go with either a resume or a CV. Keep in mind that most programs will only look at the first page of either, so make sure to start with most significant information first! ⁣
⁣
4.) 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Your resume/CV can act as a real resource for this section. Personally this is the section that terrifies me the most! It isn’t easy writing about your experiences and career goals in just a few pages. Concept mapping can be a great tool, to give yourself an outline to get started. ⁣

5.) 𝐋𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Most programs require 3 letters with 2 being from academia. You should pick people that can speak to your talents and always have a back up in case one falls through. ⁣

Certain social media platforms are more susceptible to the spread of misinformation but companies like Facebook are leading the way in removing false claims made my questionable sources. Research suggests that misinformation and reliable information spread no differently, so health professionals need to work with social media platforms to ensure accurate information is being spread more rapidly.
