Highlights from GELP Impact Leaders Camp 2026: Leadership Through Service and Inclusion.
The program brought together 80 high school students from across Canada for a day focused on leadership development, inclusion, service learning, and community engagement.
Participants began the day with leadership and cultural intelligence learning before putting those lessons into practice through community service experiences at Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank, where they learned about food recovery, food security, and reducing food waste; Habitat for Humanity, where they explored affordable housing, sustainability, reuse, and community well-being; and Maffeo Sutton Park, where, in partnership with the City of Nanaimo, they participated in a park cleanup focused on environmental responsibility, teamwork, and community pride. Following the service activities, participants took part in a reflection session and concluded the day with a visit to the Summer by the Sea Market and Parksville Beach Festival.
