Joyful Learners Joyful Learners is an inclusive, alternative educational experience for kids.

We offer afterschool programs in music, art, nature and science, summer camps , Pro D Day Camps and tutoring for all kids. Kyala is a multi faceted teacher/mentor who has been developing her tool kit for over 25 years. Her life long love of children and the natural world has inspired her to create enriching programs that invite children to be free to be who they are. Kyala has travelled around world, exploring alternative ways to connect with and inspire children.

If anyone’s looking for after school care… We have two spots open in our Friday after school music class for kids in kindergarten to grade 3. This is an absolutely delightful group of kiddos. We pick up at Laura Secord school and at Beaconfield schools in Vancouver. Our program is divided in into four sections. Rhythm, melody, ukulele, Rock band. Block 3 is Ukulele all the way baby. Strumming, chords, rhythm, ukulele, Orchestra, etc. this group is for ages grade 3 to grade 7.

Joyful learners music program Block 2. The children taught me how to build this music program.

After years of watching, listening, experimenting, and following their interests, I began to see a natural progression. I’ve taken everything we’ve learned and shaped it into four blocks, each one building intentionally into the next.

This curriculum didn’t begin with a structure. The structure emerged from the children.

Our Joyful learners music program consists 4 blocks.

The first block is rhythm as shown in this video. We make rhythm, fun and introduce a variety of ways to embody the beat.

Combining after school care with a full on music curriculum.
Mondays grade 3 to 6
Fridays, kindergarten to grade 3

One of my favourite parts of teaching music is creating a space where children can play the instrument that brings them the most joy.
Whether it’s singing, xylophone, piano, drums, ukulele, or something else entirely, every child deserves the chance to discover where they come alive.
Sometimes a child shies away from music altogether. But when you find that one place where they’re curious… where they feel capable… where they can let their guard down for just a moment…
Something beautiful happens.

We tried something different this year for our art show… Made it super interactive and used our favorite song the Addams family to display our multimedia monsters!

This year we are bringing the Fluffernutter family to Summer Camp. This camp is for kids who love stories, imagination, music, and making things with their hands. What I find personally so endearing are the little puppet shows at the end of the week. The puppet kid combo is just so darn funny. I still have a few spots left in Puppet Camp (July 6–10) at Trout Lake Park here in Vancouver.

I only offer two weeks of summer camp each year, and I truly pour my whole heart into them. These camps are something special—filled with incredible teachers, kind and creative kids, and high-quality materials and experiences. It’s genuinely the very best of what I love to offer.

The second week is already fully sold out, which I’m so grateful for. 💛

If you know a child who would thrive in a space full of creativity, play, joy, and connection, I would love for you to pass this along. These camps have such a beautiful energy, and the kids really feel it.
