Joyful Learners is an inclusive, alternative educational experience for kids.
We offer afterschool programs in music, art, nature and science, summer camps , Pro D Day Camps and tutoring for all kids. Kyala is a multi faceted teacher/mentor who has been developing her tool kit for over 25 years. Her life long love of children and the natural world has inspired her to create enriching programs that invite children to be free to be who they are. Kyala has travelled around world, exploring alternative ways to connect with and inspire children.
This year we are bringing the Fluffernutter family to Summer Camp. This camp is for kids who love stories, imagination, music, and making things with their hands. What I find personally so endearing are the little puppet shows at the end of the week. The puppet kid combo is just so darn funny. I still have a few spots left in Puppet Camp (July 6–10) at Trout Lake Park here in Vancouver.
I only offer two weeks of summer camp each year, and I truly pour my whole heart into them. These camps are something special—filled with incredible teachers, kind and creative kids, and high-quality materials and experiences. It’s genuinely the very best of what I love to offer.
The second week is already fully sold out, which I’m so grateful for. 💛

Meet Stuart. He is iconic. He is expressive. I am completely smitten. Stuart has real human hair, which somehow makes us laugh every time. This is the latest book being created by a students in my literacy tutoring program.
Once our character is defined, we create a book out line together, shaping a clear beginning and letting the story find its feet. Then we invite AI into the process—not as the creator, but as a creative helper—the process itself is exciting.
Helping a child realize their vision and ideas—and then watching them take form in new ways—is pure joy. The kind of joy that involves giggling, big ideas, and occasionally asking, “Wait… what if we tried this ?”
I wear the editor hat, and the kids are the writers and creators. I support the final shaping of the story to ensure clarity, flow, and understanding for the reader. The kids are the boss of the story though. The negotiation and collaboration between editor and writer are real world skills. I absolutely love this process.
I work with many children in literacy and math who thrive when learning feels different—more dynamic. In our sessions, we weave movement, creativity, and imagination into every lesson so that learning isn’t something that happens only at a desk. Instead, it becomes an active, energetic experience. Klids get to move, explore, act out ideas, and express themselves in ways that make learning not only accessible but exciting.
