The Center for Socialist Education is a community based society working to popularize the principles of socialism through political and cultural events.

The Center for Socialist Education was established by the Dogwood Foundation for Socialist Education in September 1983. It recognizes that struggle for socialism in Canada is an integral of the historic global conflict of our times between capitalism and socialism, in which ideology plays a major role. Its aim is to make a constructive contribution to the struggle for socialism by the following me

So much to say at this time of year, a simple message will suffice.

The Centre for Socialist Education regrets to announce that its special forum to hear from three progressive candidates in the June 24 Vancouver-Mount Pleasant by-election will not take place.

The forum had been organized for Tuesday, June 20, 7:30 pm, at the CSE, 706 Clark Drive, after it became clear that not a single candidate forum was being held in the riding. No doubt this is partly due to the extremely short time-line for the by-election, but it also reflects a serious failure of the wider democratic process. The CSE's goal was to offer at least one opportunity for voters to discuss important issues with candidates who are not from right wing or pro-fascist parties. Unfortunately, Green Party of BC candidate Wendy Hayko and NDP candidate Joan Phillip have declined to take part.

However, Communist Party of BC candidate Kimball Cariou will be at the CSE on Tuesday evening to discuss the by-election with voters.

Cariou will also meet the public on Wednesday, June 21, 12 nooon-4 pm, during a street campaigning event at Grandview Park, 1200 block of Commercial Drive. For more information, call 604-255-2041.

The Ugly Canadian: Justin Trudeau’s foreign policy

Forum with author/activist Yves Engler
7:30 pm, Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022
Centre for Socialist Education
706 Clark Drive, Vancouver BC

The Trudeau Liberals have tried to sell their pro corporate/empire policies with progressive slogans. As they violate international law and spurn efforts to overcome pressing global issues, the Liberals crow about the “international rules-based order”. Author 12 books, Yves Engler is the leading critic of Canadian foreign policy. Largely excluded from the dominant media, he has written hundreds of articles for the alternative press. He has been active with the Canadian Foreign Policy Institute, Solidarité Québec-Haiti, Mouvement Québécois pour la Paix and Disruption Network Canada.

Dr. Norman Bethune was a poet, a champion of socialized medicine and member of the Communist Party of Canada.

A dedicated internationalist, Bethune offered medical assistance to the partisans during the Spanish Civil war with a mobile blood transfusion unit of his own design. He later travelled to China to join Mao's Eighth Route Army in the struggle against the Japanese invasion, playing a crucial role in the development of battlefield surgery there.

Bethune's famous 1939 poem "Wounds", written in the dim light of a blood-soaked field hospital, remains one of the most powerful indictments of imperialist war to this day.
