On Tuesday, Hillside students and staff came together to recognize Orange Shirt Day.

Through learning, reflection, and wearing orange, we honoured the experiences of residential school survivors, remembered the children who never returned home, and reaffirmed that Every Child Matters.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this an important day of learning and remembrance at Hillside.

Football season is in full swing at Hillside!

Here are a few great shots from our recent game against the Sexsmith Sabres. It was a beautiful fall afternoon for football, and our Cougars played hard from start to finish.

We’re looking forward to more Cougars football as the season continues!

At Hillside, we continue to learn together, listen to Indigenous voices, and reflect on our shared responsibility in truth and reconciliation.
We encourage our students and staff to wear orange on September 29 as we honour survivors, remember the children who never came home, and recognize the families and communities forever impacted by residential schools.

Remember. Listen. Learn. Reflect. 🧡

As we approach September 30, schools continue to create space for learning, listening and understanding - honouring First Nations, Métis and Inuit histories, cultures, experiences and contributions, while building relationships rooted in respect.

On September 29, we invite our to wear orange in recognition of Orange Shirt Day.

On September 30, we pause to honour the children who never came home, survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities forever impacted. NGPS schools will be closed for students and staff on this day, providing opportunity for families to take part in local events and reflect on the importance of truth and reconciliation.

May our learning continue beyond these days - through listening, reflection, relationship and action.

It was a busy evening in our school community as families gathered for the Three School BBQ & Meet the Teacher Night, while Hillside students also had the opportunity to explore their futures at a post-secondary information event.
A huge thank you goes to Pembina Pipeline for generously sponsoring the BBQ, providing delicious burgers, and serving the many students, parents, and families who attended the open houses at Oscar Adolphson Primary, Harry Gray Elementary, and Hillside Jr/Sr High School. Their support helped make the evening a welcoming community event and gave families from all three schools a chance to connect.
At Hillside, students were also able to meet representatives from a variety of post-secondary institutions, ask questions, explore programs, and learn more about opportunities available after high school. We would especially like to recognize Mr. Staples for the considerable work involved in coordinating the participating institutions and bringing so many representatives together for our students.
Thank you to Pembina, Mr. Staples, our visiting post-secondary representatives, school staff, and all of the families who joined us. It was a great evening of community, connection, and planning for the future!

The Sacred Gifts of the Standing Tall Ones
Hillside students have been getting creative while connecting with the land through a special Artist in Residence experience!
We were excited to welcome Indigenous artist Angela Hall to Hillside for The Sacred Gifts of the Standing Tall Ones, an art experience that brings together Indigenous and Métis perspectives, mindfulness, and creativity. Students participated in workshops throughout the days of September 14-22.
Through hands-on art-making, students are exploring the importance of trees and their connections to medicine, nourishment, culture, and traditional ways of life.
A big thank you to Angela for sharing her artistic talents and cultural knowledge with our students and providing this meaningful opportunity to learn, reflect, and create together.
Take a look at our artists in action and their beautiful creations! 🌿🖌️
