🌱🙌 We’re proud to announce $186,000 in funding to support 10 community-led projects across the region through Free to Play. This growing national movement is helping bring outdoor, child-led play back into the everyday lives of children.

The funded projects will create more opportunities for children to move, imagine, explore, connect, and play outdoors. Projects range from outdoor gathering spaces and community-led programming to land-based learning.

Recipients include: SUPA Society, Oceanside Sprouts Early Learning Society (Pacific Rim Children and Families), Wickaninnish Community School Society, Pacific Rim Arts Society, District of Tofino, mułaa Rising Tide Surf Society, Ucluelet and Area Child Care Society - UACCS, Ucluelet Elementary School and the District of Ucluelet.

🤸‍♀️This investment is part of Free to Play, a national initiative led by Community Foundations of Canada and powered locally by participating community foundations across Canada.

UclueletCouncil _ 604RainforestDrive 07/23/2026

Dear Ucluelet Community,

As you know, the Ucluelet and Area Childcare Society is searching for permanent, secure childcare facilities. With the upcoming council decision on 604 Rainforest Drive (District of Ucluelet Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 1411, 2026 during the July 28, 2026, Regular Council Meeting at 4:00 PM) , we'd encourage you to write a letter of support to maintain the current land covenant so that it may be used for a childcare facility. We are actively reaching out to the developer to explore possibilities for the use case. Given the original plan called for a medical facility, we believe that a childcare facility is an appropriate use of this land. Additionally, given its proximity to the community centre (where we already have facilities) and Big Beach (where local children already go for day trips), the location is ideal as a long-term home that offers ease and convenience for parents, and many options for nature-based learning for children.

We encourage you to support our campaign to expand childcare space and secure a new home for our Little Beans program. We've provided this sample letter for you to edit and submit, or you can write your own. We encourage you to do this ASAP so that your voice is included prior to the July 27th cut-off before the council meeting this coming Tuesday.

Thank you for your support!

Yesterday Chris from Wildsafe BC came to the UCC to give us a talk on safety whilst around wildlife. It was so good, even I got to learn something. Did you know wolf only live until 5 years old! The kids got to see and touch a timber wolf pelt and learn lots of information. Thank you Chris.
