Wondering what ages we can accommodate at School of Fish? All of them. Today Isla learned how to cast a spinning rod all by herself. She learned to watch a bobber and reel in fish. She ate snacks, touched fish, caught worms, steered the boat, dipped her hands in the water, and did all the things that she wanted to do on a fantastic day out on the water with her family. With younger children on the boat fishing is often secondary, but we still work hard to make sure everyone has a great day, regardless of what that means for each child and each parent. Thanks for the great outing today Isla!

School of Fish are honoured to have been invited to speak to the Bible Hill Junior High Discovering Opportunities Class this week. We spent time in the classroom covering all the basics of fishing in the Bible Hill area, and followed that up with some time on a recently stocked pond. We can’t predict where a few hours of fishing might lead for this fantastic group of young adults, but we’re happy to have played even a small part in giving them a chance to get out of the classroom and experience this local fishery. And hopefully learning a thing or two along the way. And a huge thank you to Ms. Murphy for putting this all together for us.

What an amazing weekend on an amazing fishery. The St. John River is second to none, and we’re beyond excited to have been able to share the water with Ben Woo for the Destination Nackawic Open. Long hard days of fishing definitely paid off with a third place finish.

Very happy to have Rafael join us for a true Grand Lake experience. Flat calm water for the long runs in the morning. We hit lots of spots and located just a few fish that at least clued us into the jerkbait/swimbait bite. And finally we pulled up to just the right shoreline that was stacked with chain pickerel, smallmouth, and the elusive late spring striped bass. Grand lake can produce at any time of the year but these spring days when we find the stripers are certainly are hard to top.

No April Fools, it’s the first day of the 2026 Fishing Season! While the weather is not yet letting us get the boat out we can still dream of warmer days on the water. School of Fish is taking reservations for guided trips in and around Central Nova Scotia for 2026. Despite the costs of everything going up, prices for guided outings remain unchanged for this season as we try to keep our services as affordable as possible.
