Public notice is hereby given to the electors of the following electoral areas that nominations for the Office of School Trustee:
Electoral Area 1
Number of Trustees: 1
Trustee Electoral Area 1 comprised of Electoral Area I of the Regional District of Central Kootenay (Brilliant, Glade, Pass Creek, Shoreacres, Tarrys, Thrums) and part of Electoral Area J of the Regional District of Central Kootenay (Ootischenia)
Electoral Area 3
Number of Trustees: 1
Trustee Electoral Area 3 comprised of the Village of Warfield, part of Electoral Area B of the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (China Creek, Genelle, Oasis, Rivervale), and part of Electoral Area J of the Regional District of Central Kootenay (Fairview)
Electoral Area 6
Number of Trustees: 2
Trustee Electoral Area 6 comprised of the Village of Montrose, the Village of Fruitvale, and Electoral Area A of the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (rural areas bordered on the west by the Columbia River, on the south by the Canada/US border, on the north by Champion Lakes Provincial Park and stretches east of the Village of Fruitvale)

Note: No nominations will be accepted prior to 9:00 am, Tuesday, September 1, 2026, or after 4:00 pm, Friday, September 11, 2026.
Nominations and elections for Trustee Electoral Areas 2, 4 and 5 are administered by the City of Castlegar, the City of Trail, and the City of Rossland, respectively.
In the event of an election by voting being necessary, General Voting Day shall be Saturday, October 17, 2026.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR OFFICE
A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government, if they meet the following criteria:
- Canadian citizen;
- 18 years of age or older on voting day October 17, 2026;
- resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the nomination papers are filed; and
- not disqualified by the School Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding office; or otherwise disqualified by law.
CAMPAIGN PERIOD EXPENSE & THIRD-PARTY ADVERTISING LIMITS
In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 School Trustee Election, the following limits during the campaign period apply:
Campaign Period Expense Limits for candidates during the campaign period: $6,161.89 per Board of Education Trustee
Third Party Advertisement Expense Limits: $924.28 per Board of Education Trustee
Third Party Cumulative Advertising Expense Limits: $184,856.70 total for Board of Education Trustees Areas 1 – 6
