Join us May 8-9, 2024, for the BSI's Digifest Dialogues Summit and help develop forward-thinking solutions around smart sustainability.

Keeping current planetary and societal challenges in mind, three streams have been identified: Ways of Sharing, Ways of Caring, and Ways of Living. We are focussing on new Ways of Sharing that address the crisis emerging in our workplaces and learning institutions. We are looking at new Ways of Caring to reconcile and give balance to our systems that support our Health and Wellness. Finally, we are looking at our Ways of Living to better understand how to house our society and build communities that are strong and supportive.

Thank you to everyone that participated in this week's BSI International Charrette 2024!
On Monday, February 26, The Brookfield Sustainability Institute wrapped up its 21st International Charrette with over 150 professional students and practitioners presenting their final results over the intensive five-day period. The BSI's unique Design Charrette methodology enabled this interdisciplinary group to create practical tangible solutions for 11 challenges covering the theme of "Sharing, Caring and Living: Sustainable Communities for the Future", from new attainable sustainable housing models for urban dense environments, to neighbourhood food security solutions, to an innovative portable sustainable medical health/well-being clinic. The BSI will now be exploring how to take each project to pilot stage and beyond. With gratitude to all teams, their senior team leads, the over 33 expert advisors, and all the support team members from BSI and George Brown College, who helped make the event a resounding success. Over the last four days, the energy has been palpable as the students from around the world join George Brown College students at the Brookfield Sustainability Institute for the 21st International Charrette.

Exploring themes of "Sharing, Caring and Living: Sustainable Communities for the Future," the teams researched food, health and housing in inclusive and sustainable perspectives. The 11 teams, along with some of the best minds in the industry, have been exploring design solutions for urban food systems, mobile health/well-being service, sustainable cabin, sustainable community centre, sustainable park and attainable housing models at three different scales.

Exciting start to the 5-day BSI International Charrette 2024! On Day 1, our keynote speaker Blair Feltmate shared insights on the merits of incorporating climate risk into ‘sustainability design and build’. He further elaborated on the strategies for climate change adaptation, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures and community collaboration.

Today, February 22, 2024, the Brookfield Sustainability Institute will be launching the 21st International Charrette on the theme of "Sharing, Caring and Living: Sustainable Communities for the Future." Students from around the world will come together to design innovative solutions that follow the simple living philosophy for sustainable lives for all.

Teams will design main life domains: food, health and housing in inclusive and sustainable perspectives. Potential projects will explore design solutions for urban food systems, mobile health/well-being service, sustainable cabin, sustainable community centre, sustainable park and attainable housing models at three different scales.
