A Bit of ShinrinYoku Please
The forest is an amazing place. It touches one’s soul. We only need to hear the repeated stories of hikers, climbers, botanists and those just seeking calm from a society that seems to be spinning out of control or perhaps too much into it.
In Japan, forest bathing or ‘ShinrinYoku’ has long been a way to help calibrate one’s mental and physical health. It has even received Oprah’s attention.

By combining mindfulness and spending time in nature—two activities that have restorative properties on their own—shinrin-yoku can yield significant health advantages: A study conducted across 24 forests in Japan found that when people strolled in a wooded area, their levels of the stress hormone cortisol plummeted almost 16 percent more than when they walked in an urban environment.

At certain times of the year, the Haliburton camp has an array of flora and fauna. I've taken to some macro photography and have found the most interesting things come in small packages - toads, salamanders and mushrooms. There is literally a whole world to explore and learn. Hang in there. There is a lot of confusion and disorientation. Go for a walk. Go near water. Just observe the world - don't try to have an idea or thought about it. Change is never easy. When you need company - find your tribe. Peace.
