We witnessed many an Old Girl/Alum and their little ones enjoying a fun and festive time. From special moments with Santa to all the messy holiday themed activities, it was great to see our community come together and kick off the holidays in style.

We have an Oscar connection! HC Alum Jade Crenian '18, who visited campus to catch up with Ms. Houston White last week, was an assciate producer on the Oscar wining film, The Last Repair Shop, produced by Breakwater Studios. The film won the Best Documentary Short Film. Congrats Jade!

Today, we hosted our second Careers Spotlight event, a collaborative effort between Guidance and Alumni Engagement. We were excited to welcome Interior Designers Cynthia Ferguson '88 and Clair Fitzgerald '86, Textile Designer Kingi Carpenter '81, and recent Master of Arts graduate and Western University doctoral candidate, Calla Elia '14.

They joined us for an engaging arts-themed discussion, shedding light on their careers for our Grade 11 and 12 students.

The Havergal Board of Governors is inviting parents and Havergal Old Girls/Alum to apply to serve on the Board or on a Board Committee. Applications are due by February 2 and all applications will be reviewed. More details about the Board of Governors and the application form are available at:

Dear Havergal Old Girls/Alum,

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of esteemed alum, CJ Scott, Class of '92. A remarkable diplomat and a shining star during her time at Havergal, CJ will be dearly missed.

Her memorial has been scheduled for Feb 3rd in Oshawa. You can find more details and share your memories in the obituary linked below.

We are writing with heavy hearts to share the news that Dorthy Lancaster (former Junior School Principal and faculty member at Havergal) passed away on January 2, 2024.

Dorthy’s legacy of caring for children, her love of learning and her compassionate leadership made for a lasting legacy at Havergal, impacting many students, parents and colleagues during her 20-year tenure at the school.

Applications for the Havergal College Board of Governors

Message from Michael Copeland, Chair of the Governance Committee

The primary responsibility of the Governance Committee is to ensure that the Board is well-equipped to carry out its oversight role with respect to the College. Part of that responsibility is to continually evaluate how well the Board and its committees carry out their mandates and advance the College’s educational mission.

One of the most important things the Governance Committee works on is identifying and nominating strong candidates for the Board and its committees. This is an ongoing effort as we try to maintain a roster of broadly qualified candidates. Using a competency-based model, the committee identifies skills and constituencies that need to be considered as we plan for the future.

In reviewing applications, the Governance Committee looks to constitute a Board that balances a mix of competencies and experience, established and newer Old Girls/Alums, current and past parents, and independent members. The Board is also committed to ensuring there is diverse representation on the Board of Governors whose skills and experience align with our competency framework.

In assessing applications, the Governance Committee favours no particular professional background over another, but we frequently seek specific areas of experience and expertise. This year the committee is especially interested in identifying potential candidates with one or more of the following: philanthropic board and/or charitable foundation board experience; capital infrastructure project oversight experience; and CPA/CFO/operational finance/public accountancy experience.

Governors are volunteers and must be willing to commit the substantial time, effort, and energy necessary to fulfill the role and serve the school. It is also expected that a Board Governor will make Havergal one of their top personal charitable priorities.
