The Creative Preschool of East Toronto The Creative Preschool of East Toronto helps children and parents deal with the process of separatio

The Creative Preschool of East Toronto provides a secure, stimulating and flexible environment in which children may develop socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively. We help children and parents deal with the process of separation and learn that school is a fun place to be. Since 1979 we have provided an environment in which children develop social and thinking skills through arts, crafts, drama, puzzles and free play activities. We use a whole language and whole math approach that stimulates language and math concepts in every activity. Our science and critical thinking activities encourage children to think of unique and creative solutions in collaboration with others. The adults assist the children as they develop group skills, the ability to problem solve and self-discipline. The Creative Preschool offers a morning preschool program for children ages 2 ½ to 4 years. In the afternoon we also have a preschool/kindergarten program for children 3 to 6 years in the Young Explorers Program. Our After School Club for JK through grade 3 children is available 3:20 to 5:30 pm. As a non-profit co-operative centre we provide children with the opportunity to interact with other children and learn social skills to prepare for the larger world around them. At the same time, parents have the opportunity to be involved with their children’s experiences. Parents participate in the classroom once every three to four weeks, contributing to snack and being part of the teaching team for the day. Our board of directors is made up of volunteer parents who are responsible for the running of the corporation while early childhood education staff is responsible for implementing an educational program to achieve the objectives of the co-operative. "I am from this land. My ancestors are buried here on this land. This land is our land, and it's part of me and part of everything I am and everything I do." - Autumn Peltier (Chief Water Commissioner for the Anishinabek Nation and an environmental advocate).

Children, through their art, express themselves and connect with the world around them. We use recyclables, nature from nearby, and their imaginations to allow them to connect to the wider world. Here we have yarn apples, acorn buddies, nature collages and dande-lion !
