Waste Reduction is an environmental justice issue. On Oct. 29th join special guests from Black Environmental Initiative and UofT’s Trash Team to discuss climate change, waste and social justice. How do these issues affect you and how can you make a difference in your everyday life?
Social Action Pop-Ups are monthly events where students learn how to take action on a social issue through engaging with community workers, educators and activists working on the ground.
At this Social Action Pop-up you will:
Hear from other UofT students passionate about environmental justice
Learn how to get involved in clubs and groups focusing on climate action
Have the opportunity to commit to change by participating in the Waste Reduction Challenge that runs Oct. 29th - Nov. 12th ( )

"We picked up 100+ cigarette butts in 1 hour!!! It was inspiring to see over 150 students come out (on a super super hot day) to support this event. The shoreline cleanup is a reminder that the garbage that was not picked up by us would have travelled to the water and other natural animal habitats. I want to continue to be mindful of how my actions can potentially impact our wider surroundings." --Rhoda Lam, ARW Community Partner Liaison

By Marie Wee, CCP Work Study Student, Seniors Project Program Assistant I first became involved with the Centre for Community Partnerships (CCP) through their Alternative Reading Week Program (ARW) last February. I volunteered as a student participant with 3 other U of T students at Frontier College. This experience allowed us to reflect on the simple everyday things that we often take for granted - books - due to the privileges that we hold as university students. [ 343 more words ]
