Congratulations to Anna Nickel for capturing first place at the Ontario Three Minute Thesis competition! 🥇
Anna was also selected as the co-participant’s choice winner, a testament to the impact of her work and the recognition of her peers.
Her presentation highlighted findings from her thesis on adapted concussion assessments for athletes with visual impairment.
We wish Anna the best of luck as she continues her 3MT journey at Nationals this November!

Congratulations to our very own, Nicola Odu, for the Brock University President’s Surgite Award Nicola is a first-generation Nigerian-Canadian, majoring in Biomedical Sciences at Brock University. She pursues research opportunities that center on concussion experiences among Black youth. She founded the Brock BIPOC Sisters in STEAM club, offering mentorship and community support to racialized female and gender-diverse students. She was selected to be one of 50 students to teach as a volunteer within Brock’s Human Anatomy Volunteer Program. Additionally, she was personally selected to be the Executive Coordinator of the Brock Anatomy Symposium and was selected to be one of two students to assist in teaching the laboratory section of McMaster’s DeGroote School of Medicine’s Medical Foundations course at their Niagara Regional Campus. Overall, her work is guided by her commitment to encourage representation and collective support. She chooses to use her experience to inspire and inform her community and equity-deserving populations.

The overarching goal of the I³ research program is to develop, implement, and evaluate strategies to keep people active via sport injury prevention and management as well as to develop policies that integrate evidence-informed solutions into public health initiatives to prevent injuries including sport-related concussions.
