Well this is the winter point of no return. Mast down, radar removed, running riggging will be removed on the mast rack for cleaning and inspection.
It is that time of the year when our boats have to come out for winter maintenance and storage.
We had to cancel the basic and intermediate courses for the first week of this month, but these students get first choice on the May/June ‘23 courses.
VHF is still popular, however that will have to wait until after launch.
The mast comes off on Friday and the boat lifted out next Friday. The hull will be cleaned and inspected and the propeller removed to be sent to AB Marine in Boston to be be inspected and reset. This will hopefully cure some of the mystery movements, or lack of, that were embarrassingly experienced this season. Also setting the pitch to give us about 1 knot at idle instead of 31/2.
There is some internal electrical work to complete and lots of study on the new radar and chart plotter.
We do, perhaps for the first time, have some candidates in waiting for next years courses. The provisional dates will be set once the work-scope has been finalized and launch dates set.
We hope that you had a happy thanksgiving and will have a safe fall.

Now it is time to undo my McGyver fix and fit the new bracket, for which I need an extra hand and the flexibility of a snake. Oh well, blue air arising!
Happy Canada Day to All of Sail Trillium's friends and your families.

The culmination of our first Basic Cruising course, held in Toronto. Saturday was great for up and downwind sailing practice and the students got good at run to run gybing. Well done the six of them and just their ROC(M) to write.
One of last weekend's students on the ROC(M) VHF course sent this:
Hi Nigel,
Thanks so much for the great course this weekend. I learned a lot and will be a better boater as a result. I compared notes with someone who recently completed the cps classroom course. I’m convinced we had a more comprehensive and practical, hands on experience than he did!
Thx again!
Les
I thinks this sums up the fun we had and the skills shared.
This Friday and Saturday saw us run a very successful VHF course at Newport Yacht Club. Congratulations to Les, Dean and Shona. It was helped by real life comms. with Prescott Coast Guard Radio and all the unknowing contributors on Channel One Six, who had real life emergencies.

We now have the canvas Bimini installed to provide shelter for our students.
Yesterday saw all six students doing an excellent job of docking and undocking in a very tight space. Given that their experience ranges from big ships to very little, it was impressive and no matter how they dock in future they each know that they can always use these techniques to help them in a tight space
