Take It To The House: The History of St. Christopher House Lacrosse tells the story of a groundbreaking lacrosse program established in Toronto’s Alexandra Park by Bob Opperman — a residential school survivor and community activist.
Founded in 1963, the program created access to sport for children and youth from low-income and newcomer communities, going on to shape some of Canada’s most celebrated lacrosse players. Built on inclusivity — no fees, no tryouts — and a deep respect for “the medicine game,” this exhibition captures the spirit of community, resilience, and cultural continuity at the heart of the sport.
This exhibition also reflects the depth of research and storytelling led by faculty within Creative Industries at Toronto Metropolitan University. Through community-engaged scholarship, interdisciplinary research, and a commitment to preserving underrepresented histories, CRI faculty continue to bridge academia and lived experience—bringing forward narratives that challenge, educate, and resonate beyond the classroom.
