Learning the meaning of Orange Shirt Day, our students and teams recognize Phyllis’ heartfelt story, and the history of Indigenous children and communities.
Sisters in Spirit. Our pod kids are planting Other Sisters sunflowers🌻 in honour in our yard. We’re excited to watch them grow, and hope awareness does too.
We’ve begun researching the Anishinaabe Creation story and the Woodland-style mural — painted by artist and activist Philip Cote, inspired by Norval Morrisseau — that adorns our building wall.
With a conscious shift in perspective, we are choosing to take this unprecedented time as an opportunity to ask deeper questions, start dialogues, learn more than what’s given, and strive to grow as better humans.
If you see us on our daily excursions in the neighbourhood, please say hi! We hope you’re staying well and happy ❤️
Ps: Our beloved Jenny is so talented! She drew the gorgeous woodland outlines for our kids to colour and I love!!!

🍂 Outdoor learning 🍂
Our learning pod has the amazing opportunity to go on daily excursions to learn about nature, science, animals, forage for art projects, while getting their dose of fresh air and exercise.
It’s so important to prioritize their education, but also their physical and mental wellbeing.

As part of their Visual Arts class, grade 8 students at Fern Avenue Public School created individual quilt blocks focused on a social justice issue of their choosing. The blocks were pieced together to form a class quilt that reflects their ideals and hopes for improving society.
The project was inspired by the work of the Social Justice Sewing Academy. Founded in 2017, SJSA is a youth education program that bridges artistic expression with activism to advocate for social justice.
Absolutely impressive and inspiring work done by these students and their teachers. Early school closures didn’t stop them from completing the quilt, thanks to the incredible teacher and Roncy resident Romina Maggi // who helped make it happen!
We are so honoured to display this piece for the graduating students, which you can check out for yourself in the window of .
Please help us in congratulating the Fern Avenue PS class and wishing them the very best on the next chapter of their lives! @ Nest + Hatch

Social distancing doesn’t have to mean losses; it’s just an adjustment to how we do things. Granted this photo is showing nothing all us parents have to juggle, like homeschooling, providing 3+ healthy meals/day, and the bottomless sink of dishes. But I’m choosing to focus on the good, like family time together that wouldn’t otherwise be possible and rearranging my entire house.
Would appreciate more ideas on what to do next. What activities are you doing?

Are you guys spring cleaning too? Being home is giving me an opportunity for a good purge and (enter Marie Kondo voice) give space for what brings joy. It’s great having the kids’ extra hands, too.
Shoutout — Gorgeous inspo to repurpose and move around items I already have for a fresh new vibe. ☀️ Thanks, babe! You’ve got to check her out.

💛 I can’t thank you enough for all the kind messages, emails and shares on your stories — they’re so appreciated and offer much hope during this weird time.
As I continue to pay my team so they don’t have to suffer the same financial hardships, your purchases of passes and gift cards to be used once all this is over means the world in keeping the Nest + Hatch community alive for all to enjoy.
💋 Better believe we’re coming together for a huge party with lots of hand shakes and hugs ASAP! 💋
How are you holding up?
