🥇 The ITE University of Toronto Student Chapter (UT-ITE) ITE University of Toronto Student Chapter (UT-ITE) scores first-ever victory at Sandbox Competition! Student chapter, represented by Civil Engineering undergraduate students, has won first place at the annual People-Centered Mobility in Transportation Sandbox Design Competition by ITE—A Community of Transportation Professional Headquarters ITE—A Community of Transportation Professionals.

Although only three members were able to travel to Detroit to present the team’s work, the team noted the hard work and valuable contributions from all seven members Kaiy Cao (Year 4 CivE), Ian Cassidy (Year 3 CivE), Lucas Gaspari (CivE on PEY), Michael Hollander (CivE on PEY), Sean Leung (Year 4 CivE ), Thanusan Ragulan (CivE on PEY) and Owen Zhang (Year 4 CivE). Were essential in this landmark international win!

🥇University of Toronto Seismic Design Team UofT Seismic Design Team has won the Best Seismic Performance Award at the 2026 Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition (SDC). U of T’s entry stood out amongst the 47 teams from around the world with a design created by the team of Civil+Mineral Engineering UofT Civil Engineering, U of T Daniels Faculty Daniels Faculty of Architecture and U of T Department Of Computer Science Computer Science undergraduate students.
The annual competition was held in Portland, Oregon during the 13th National Conference on Earthquake Engineering (13NCEE) EERI.

is stepping into the future of construction 🤖🌲

The Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering in the Engineering at the has launched its first industrial-scale robotic fabrication system for timber construction. ⚡️A first for the department and the largest at a Canadian university, this newly installed robotic arm marks a major step toward automated, high-performance building.

Housed in the Machine Shop in the Galbraith Building , the system stands out among the surrounding 1960s-era machinery and highlights a new chapter in fabrication technology.

Led by CivMin’s Professor A***n Rezaei Rad, graduate students and undergraduate summer researchers from the Sustainable Structural Systems (SuStrucSy) Research Lab are training to explore the full potential of this new tool.
