PhD Visual Arts student Shannon Garden-Smith recently completed a one-month artist residency in San José, Costa Rica with satis.FACTORY, where she explored how everyday surfaces can shape artistic research and studio practice. The residency included a collaboration with La Bici Escuela, a local organization focused on bike riding and community engagement.

Congratulations to AMPD alumni on an incredible 28 wins at this year’s Canadian Screen Awards! 🏆
With achievements across film, television, documentary and digital media, this year’s wins reflect the incredible range of AMPD talent across Canada’s screen industries. Alumni were recognized in major categories including Best Motion Picture, performance, writing, cinematography, costume design and more.
“York helped me build my confidence,” recent Film Production graduate Heather Hedley (BFA ’26), who won Achievement in Costume Design. “It cultivated a celebratory environment where, through Finish Line, CineSiege, in-class screenings and discussions, we learned to celebrate the process together.”

Alumni, faculty and students from the Department of Theatre, Dance & Performance took part in 'Haven' at Doors Open Toronto!
Presented at Ireland Park, 'Haven' is a dance and music performance choreographed by Terrill Maguire. The performance featured Dance alumni Derek Souvannavong (BFA ’22) and Oriah Wiersma (BFA '14), with costumes by Associate Professor Sylvia Defend and costume assistance by current Theatre student Natasha Ross.
