The best article I've read on why business English is a must for individuals and organizations. It's a lengthy one from the Harvard Business Review, but well worth it. Some highlights:

- Despite it's Japanese HQ, Rakuten's official language is English (7 years after adopting the policy, half their employees have some mastery)
- 1.7 billion of us can communicate in English usefully (565 million are using it on the Internet)
- The three reasons driving the fastest spreading language in history: globalization, M&As, and competitive pressure
