Toronto Chinese community's efforts to contain coronavirus overshadowed by stigma: research The early efforts by the Chinese community in Toronto to quell the spread of coronavirus at the beginning of the year were largely overshadowed by stigma and Sinophobia at the time, according to new research.

Dear BDEM and MDEM students,

The call for applications is now open for the Ontario Association of Emergency Managers 2020 Academic Student Awards. Applicants must be registered in a post-secondary program during the current academic year (September 2019 – August 2020) and have an ON address of residence or attend an educational institution in ON.

Awards are as follows:
The Brian Hook Memorial Award $1,500
Alain Normand Academic Award $1,000
Marg Verbeek President’s Award $500
Deadline for submissions closes Aug. 31st

Awards will be presented at the OAEM Annual General Meeting (AGM) taking place October 8, 2020.

The IAEM Scholarship Program Application Period is open and will close at 11:59:59 p.m. CDT on July 15, 2020. The IAEM Scholarship Program provides scholarships through a competitive process to full-time undergraduate and graduate students, and part-time graduate students, working on degrees in emergency management, disaster management, or closely related fields of study. Applications are received from students anywhere in the world, and students do not have to be members of IAEM. Awardees are selected based on applications and required complimentary materials.

To be considered for an award in this year’s program, visit the online scholarship application portal and review the application instructions. A login and password are necessary to complete the application. Individuals who do not have an IAEM account will be prompted to register (at no cost) prior to completing the application. Registration provides applicants access to update the application and provide additional documentation prior to the deadline.
