🇨🇦 Happy Canada Day! July 1, 2026, not only marks Canada’s 159th birthday but also the 103rd anniversary of the arrival of the first 46 Armenian Genocide orphans at Georgetown, Ontario. A group of 50 were collected from the London, UK-based Armenian Refugees (Lord Mayor’s) Fund Orphanage in Corfu, Greece, and traveled via Marseilles to Cherbourg, France.
Four were held back for several weeks, with the rest continuing on to Quebec City. Taking a train through Quebec and Ontario, they finally arrived at Georgetown on what was then called Dominion Day. The project was a milestone in the history of a country that has prided itself for its humanitarian record.

During their visit, the Centre provided a presentation about Canada and the Armenian Genocide and offered workshops on Canadian Upstanders during the Armenian Genocide, the story of the Georgetown Boys, and an art session focused on Armenian alphabet calligraphy. “On November 1, 2005, the UN General Assembly passed resolution 60/7, officially establishing January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day, commemorating the liberation of Auschwitz. Today, let us pay tribute to the millions who tragically perished in the atrocities perpetrated by the N***s. “Change isn’t happening fast enough for men. You must make it happen faster. When you see injustice happening, stand up!”
