“It means the world that he can go.” Teacher Laura Palomino of Morse Street Public School is speaking of one of the students in her class. The student, who resides at a local shelter, is now enrolled for one of the Chess Institute of Canada (CIC)’s ‘Chess to Life’ programs at her school, thanks to her efforts, and a subsidy program offered by CIC.

Chess is for everyone! That's why the Chess Institute of Canada fully subsidizes youth who live in shelters and want to participate in our programs. Schools with a CIC chess program can contact us for details -- and schools without a CIC program are welcome to reach out to us about setting one up!

Girls were well-represented at our latest PA Day camp! Activities, puzzles, healthy food, a tournament and lots of fun for everyone who attended. It was great to see such a wonderful turnout, and inspiring to see young women participating in large numbers!

PA Days, Camps & Events – Chess Institute of Canada Get ready for a day packed with fun and excitement! Whether you’re a budding chess prodigy or new to the game, we offer a unique combination of chess and life skills.

A stellar day of chess, activities and fun saw students from across the GTA come together for the first Chess Institute of Canada (CIC) PA day camp of the 2024-25 school year.

Taking place at Trinity-St. Paul’s on Bloor Street, almost two dozen children played games, enjoyed healthy food, and participated in a nationally ranked tournament under the supervision of some of CIC’s senior instructors.

The event marks the first of a dozen PA day events for CIC for the school year, covering Toronto’s English-language school boards and – as the largest French-language teaching organization in the city – French PA days as well.

Future events will be held at the Chess Institute’s “home base” of 918 Bathurst St., only a few minutes’ walk from the Bathurst St. subway station.
