MEDIA ADVISORY
TORONTO CHUNG WAH CHINESE SCHOOL LAUNCHES PRE-UNIVERSITY SUMMER PROGRAM FOR CHINESE CANADIAN STUDENTS
With over 32 years of established history in Toronto and an annual enrolment of over 1,000 students, the Toronto Chung Wah Chinese School is very proud to announce the launch of its first ever pre-university global citizenship education program for Chinese Canadian students. The aim of this program is to increase Chinese Canadian students’ chances of getting into university by providing them with skills in leadership, interpersonal development, critical thinking, self-expression, problem-solving, team-building, as well as reading and writing. Students will also obtain knowledge and understanding of Chinese Canadian history and exposure to contemporary socio-political issues faced by Chinese Canadians.
The launch of this exciting new initiative comes in the heels of Asian Heritage Month - a celebration of the important contributions made by Asian Canadians in Canada. According to May Yim, President of Chung Wah:
“Educators and University Recruiters have told us that universities are not only looking for students with high academic credentials but also those who have shown strong critical thinking, team-work and leadership skills in their local communities. This program is meant to foster such skills and prepare students to become future leaders and important contributors to society.”
The launch will also include presentations on education trends by Dr. Yuk-Lin Renita Wong, Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director from the School of Social Work, York University and Mr. Aries Cheung, Award-Winning Artist of the Royal Canadian Mint.
We welcome members of the media and the public to join us at this exciting event.

Dear All,
I am pleased to announce the launch of a new summer program called "Just Watch Me!" - A Global Citizens Initiative for Chinese Canadian students between 12 to 16 years of age.
Through my work with the Toronto Chung Wah Chinese School (a not-for-profit entity), the program was developed with leading Chinese Canadian educators, academics, artists, business and community individuals who wanted to create a unique learning environment for Chinese Canadian students to obtain skills to optimize their opportunities for higher education and employment.
The program uses arts, social media and experiential learning tools to help students obtain skills in leadership, community development, interpersonal relations, research, problem-solving and program planning. Students will also learn about Chinese Canadian history as well as contemporary issues facing Chinese Canadians (this is not your typical Chinese school setting!).
Kindly share this with parents and students you know. Subsidies are also available if needed.
