Thank you for this amazing review, J! It is an absolute pleasure to work with D.

We are enjoying our church tunes with a bit of broadway show-tunes thrown into the mix. D. has recently hit a milestone of reading both treble clef and bass clef simultaneously, instead of one staff at a time. Well done, D.! We love a gentle brain challenge.

A.L. and her trio comprised of J.C. & R.K. performing Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio no. 1 for the entire school. Huge “Thank You!” to the school’s music teacher and to Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s principal oboist, for coaching her in Masterclass.

This was A.L.‘s first big foray into the world of collaborative piano playing (outside of playing piano duets/duos with me). Brava!

Congratulations to Jacob! His composition, “The Creepy Video Game”, was selected for first place in the P1 (Piano composition for a student under 8 years old) category of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association.

Jacob was inspired by his experiences playing video games. He imagined a game in which there was a monster in a haunted house and the players had to escape! A conscious effort was made to incorporate several compositional tools such as motivic development, minor chord harmonies, and scalar passages.

The composer has kindly given permission for his piece to be published here, to be enjoyed by all. A big congratulations goes out to all the composers who participated in this contest. Huge appreciation as well for all the amazing teachers coaching their students in this contest and to esteemed composer and adjudicator, Joanne Bender, for her helpful comments.

*Biweekly lessons are recommended for adult students who already have some piano experience.

For beginners, weekly lessons will be more appropriate to ensure consistent learning.

A.L. performing Claude Debussy’s “Arabesque no. 2” from Deux Arabesques L. 66. (RCM Level 10) at our studio recital.

A.L. began piano lessons with me when she was 5 years old. It’s been more than a decade that we’ve worked together now. This Impressionist piece has been on A.L.‘s bucket list since forever but it was always just a bit too challenging to tackle - until recently. What an achievement it was when we finally got the rhythmic flow!

Next on the bucket list are: Nouvelle Etude in F minor by Frederyck Chopin and Prelude no. 18 in E major by Maria Szymanowska. Keep up the good work, A. L.!

Congratulations to all participants of The Alliance for Canadian New Music Project’s Contemporary Showcase Festival 2025 (Toronto Branch)! Celebrating contemporary music by Canadian Composers.

This was J. W.‘s first masterclass. He performed “Ghost Dance” by D. Wanless and “Olie the Goalie” by Stephen Chatman (Preparatory A Level) for adjudicator, Jane Watson, who gave helpful feedback. We were delighted to perform at the Royal Conservatory of Music. What a fantastic learning experience!

ORMTA Central Toronto Branch teachers doing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” hands at our Halloween recital. (Not recommended for proper piano technique, by the way.)

I am honoured to teach alongside these esteemed musicians in Central Toronto area.
