National Child Day is celebrated in Canada on November 20th to acknowledge the importance of children’s rights and our country’s commitment to upholding them.
By signing onto the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1991, Canada made a commitment to ensure that all children are treated with dignity and respect and have every opportunity to reach their full potential. This commitment includes:
• Providing children opportunities to have a voice (speak out and be heard)
• Protecting children from harm
• Ensuring children's basic needs are met

November 8 is National STEM/STEAM Day, which recognizes the important role science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), together with the arts (STEAM), play in our daily lives.

Here is an easy science investigation activity using your leftover pumpkins and learning about the process of composting.
Decomposition is nature's way of recycling nutrients. Using your leftover Halloween pumpkins, you can observe the pumpkin and how it changes as it decomposes. 🎃

You can draw a picture of your pumpkin on the first day and throughout the investigation to illustrate the changes happening. Then talk about the changes you are seeing…
What's happening to the pumpkin during this process?
Is the pumpkin changing colour?
Is anything growing on the pumpkin?
What’s happening to the shape of the pumpkin?
What’s happening inside the pumpkin?
Did the cold nights leave any frost on your pumpkin?

World Kindness is Sunday, November 5th!

Being kind has many benefits for kids. Did you know that children who are kind and empathetic are healthier, happier, and make friends more easily? It’s true! Teaching kindness is a subject where you want to lead by example. As your children see you choosing kindness, they will be more likely to show kindness as well. Remember kindness is contagious…if you want your children to learn to be kind, it’s important to show them kindness too.

This Kindness Rainbow activity is a great way to encourage children to practice kindness!

What you need:
Colourful sheets of construction paper, marker, scissors, and tape.

What to do:
Step 1: Cut out two clouds, and handprints, drawn freehand or traced.
Step 2: Whenever you spot your little ones doing something kind or thoughtful, write it down on a handprint along with their name and tape it to the wall or window, forming your kindness rainbow!
Step 3: Once the rainbow is complete, keep the conversation going, let the rainbow serve as a reminder that we should all be kind and thoughtful towards others.
