Queen West Art Crawl Festival operates in T'karonto, or “Where The Trees Meet The Water” and also “The Gathering Place”. We acknowledge we are hosted on the lands of the Mississaugas of the Anishinaabe, the Haundenosaunee Confederacy, the Chippewa and the Wendat. We also recognize the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and the Inuit peoples here and across Turtle Island.
This territory is governed under the The Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which originated many hundreds of years ago and contributed greatly to the creation of the “Great League of Peace”. This treaty is used to describe how land and water can be shared to the mutual benefit of all its inhabitants.
The Canadian Native Flag displayed here was designed by Kwakwaka’wakw artist Curtis Wilson. His design for the flag is meant to represent First Nations in Canada to the public, with the hope that it brings a better understanding of the First Nations of our country and a vision for a unified Canada that can revel in its diversity.
Miigwetch & Happy Canada Day.
