The Ryerson Centre for Cloud and Context-Aware Computing (RC4) is creating a focused cluster of excellence in Southern Ontario. The centre is focused on developing innovative applications that target strategic market verticals in order to create jobs, improve productivity and performance in Southern Ontario. Additionally, RC4 is creating a lasting competitive advantage in a rapidly emerging sector (cloud and context-aware computing). As the only centre of its kind in the world, it will provide the critical mass of infrastructure and expertise necessary to build a global reputation. As an innovation hub, in partnership with the private sector, RC4 will have a leading edge infrastructure to develop and showcase innovative applications that will benefit ICT companies and end users in target vertical markets. The Centre will provide a supportive, collaborative zone that brings together key stakeholders in a market-driven approach to innovation and commercialization. RC4 will concentrate on strategic areas of cloud and context-aware computing in order to address the needs of major strategic verticals that can bring competitive advantage in five sectors in Canada, including: Manufacturing, Consumer (Retail, Entertainment, Media), Transportation, Medical Informatics, and Public Safety.
