John Noyes, professor in the Department of Germanic Languages & Literatures, has published a new translation of Johann Gottfried Herder's Letters for the Advancement of Humanity with Cambridge University Press.
At more than 750 pages, this volume marks the first time Herder's landmark work has been translated into English. Noyes's translation brings one of the 18th century's most influential philosophical texts to English-speaking readers and offers new opportunities for students, scholars, and readers interested in German intellectual history, the Enlightenment, political thought and the history of ideas.
