Working artists working in a broad range of creative interpretations of contemporary Jewish life are eligible to apply. The program is open to professionals working in areas of the visual, musical, performing, and literary arts.

The program seeks to support the creation and production of new artistic work and to provide insight into the process of conceptualizing and producing creative work. The artist will work with a scholarly interdisciplinary community at the Centre and within an artistic academic community in a partnering humanities units. Artists in Residence may be asked to teach a course; share their practice through public-facing events, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students; and participate in community life on and off campus.

is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Shlomo Zuckier as the Igor Kaplan Postdoctoral Fellow in Christian-Jewish Relations effective September 1, 2025. This is a joint appointment with the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies, University of Toronto (ATCJS).

Dr. Zuckier’s PhD thesis entitled, “Flesh and Blood: The Reception of Biblical Sacrifice in Selected Talmudic Sources in Comparative Context” was awarded by Yale University in 2020. He brings with him rich academic experiences having held research fellowships at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton; University of Notre Dame; and McGill University. Dr. Zuckier has an impressive scholarly publication record in aspects of both Ancient and Modern Judaism and Jewish-Christian relations.

As the Igor Kaplan Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr. Zuckier will be part of both the ATCSJ and the TST communities, as well as the wider University of Toronto community. Dr. Zuckier’s office will be located at TST’s member college, Regis St. Michael's Faculty of Theology. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Zuckier to Toronto in the Fall.

Mazel tov to the new Dr. Schwartz! 🎓 We are so excited and proud to share the news that ATCJS graduate student, Miriam Schwartz, successfully defended “as is”! Dr. Schwartz is heading to Dartmouth College to start her Mellon postdoctoral fellowship. We wish her all the best and look forward to seeing her successes in the future!

This competitive program invites applications from active artists engaged in a broad range of creative interpretations of contemporary Jewish life. Eligible applicants include professionals working in the visual, musical, performing, and literary arts.

The selected artist will join an interdisciplinary scholarly community at the Centre and collaborate with an artistic academic community in a partnering humanities unit.
