ALBERTA IMMIGRATION APPLICANTS & WORKERS 🇨🇦

🚨 NEW SEPTEMBER 2026 UPDATE: ALBERTA SELECTS WORKERS FOR PROVINCIAL NOMINATION

Alberta has continued its September immigration selections through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), inviting workers across several priority sectors to apply for provincial nomination.

📅 September 2026 Selection Highlights:

🔹 Healthcare: 100 invitations
🔹 Technology: 100 invitations
🔹 Alberta Opportunity Stream: 113 invitations
🔹 Manufacturing: 48 invitations
🔹 Agriculture: 18 invitations
🔹 Law Enforcement: Fewer than 10 invitations

These selections took place between September 10 and September 23, 2026.

💼 WHICH WORKERS ARE ALBERTA PRIORITIZING?

For 2026, Alberta has identified several key sectors for its worker streams, including:

✅ Healthcare
✅ Technology
✅ Construction
✅ Manufacturing
✅ Aviation
✅ Agriculture
✅ Rural communities

Alberta’s selection rounds are not regularly scheduled and are conducted according to provincial labour-market needs and priorities.

🇨🇦 WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

For eligible workers, an Alberta provincial nomination can provide an important pathway toward permanent residence.

However, receiving an invitation or being selected does not automatically mean permanent residence is approved. Candidates must still meet the requirements of the applicable AAIP stream and complete the required application process.

🚨 NEW SEPTEMBER 2026 EXPRESS ENTRY UPDATE

Canada has issued 733 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates with a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nomination through the latest Express Entry draw.

📅 Draw Date: September 28, 2026
🎯 Program: Provincial Nominee Program
📨 Invitations Issued: 733
📊 Minimum CRS Score: 725

🔹 WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

To use the Express Entry PNP process, you generally need to:

✅ Be eligible for a participating provincial or territorial nominee program
✅ Receive a nomination from a province or territory
✅ Be eligible for one of the Express Entry programs
✅ Create and maintain an eligible Express Entry profile (Canada)

⚠️ IMPORTANT: A CRS score of 725 was the cutoff for this specific PNP draw. It does not mean future Express Entry draws will have the same cutoff.

EXPRESS ENTRY CANDIDATES 🇨🇦

IMPORTANT 2026 UPDATE: Canada Is Developing a New Express Entry System

Canada is moving forward with major digital modernization plans for its immigration system, and Express Entry is among the programs expected to be affected.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is working to introduce a more modern digital platform designed to improve how immigration applications are managed and processed.

🔹 WHAT IS CHANGING?

1. A New Expression of Interest System

IRCC’s modernization plan includes a new Expression of Interest (EOI) system specifically designed to manage Express Entry applications.

2. A More Modern Online Experience

The department is working toward a more integrated online system, making it easier for applicants to access immigration services and manage their applications.

3. Improved Application Management

The modernization initiative aims to streamline processes, improve data management, and use digital tools to support more efficient application processing.

🔹 WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR EXPRESS ENTRY CANDIDATES?

The planned changes could affect how candidates interact with the Express Entry system in the future.

However, IRCC has not confirmed a specific launch date for the new Express Entry EOI system.

Candidates should continue following the existing Express Entry requirements and official instructions until further changes are announced.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: This is a digital modernization initiative, not a new permanent residence pathway. It does not guarantee faster processing, an invitation to apply, or permanent residence approval.

🇨🇦 STAY INFORMED. PREPARE FOR YOUR FUTURE.

If you are planning to immigrate to Canada through Express Entry, staying informed about official immigration changes is essential.

IMPORTANT SEPTEMBER 2026 UPDATE: Citizenship Certificate Processing Times Reach 33 Months

Are you applying for proof of Canadian citizenship through your parents, grandparents, or Canadian ancestry? Here is an important update to know!

Canada’s latest processing-time update shows that applicants for a proof of Canadian citizenship certificate may now face an estimated wait of 33 months — almost three years!

🔹 WHAT IS THE CURRENT PROCESSING TIME?

* September 2026: 33 months
* August 2026: 25 months
* May 2026: 12 months

Processing times have increased significantly in recent months as the number of applications waiting for a decision has grown.

🔹 WHO MAY BE AFFECTED?

This update is especially relevant to people who:

* Have a Canadian parent, grandparent, or other Canadian ancestor.
* Believe they may already be Canadian citizens by descent.
* Need a citizenship certificate to apply for a Canadian passport or confirm their citizenship status.

Following changes to Canada’s citizenship-by-descent rules, more people may qualify for citizenship through their Canadian ancestry, depending on their circumstances.

🔹 CAN YOU REQUEST FASTER PROCESSING?

Yes. IRCC allows eligible applicants to request urgent processing when they have a qualifying urgent need and supporting documents.

Examples may include urgent travel, employment requirements, access to certain benefits, or medical and family emergencies.

⚠️ Urgent processing is not automatic or guaranteed. Each request is assessed individually, and applicants must provide supporting evidence.

❤️ IMPORTANT FOR FAMILIES

If you believe you may be a Canadian citizen through your family history, understanding your eligibility and preparing the required documents can be an important first step.

IMPORTANT SEPTEMBER 2026 UPDATE: Canada Ends Special Family Sponsorship Policy for Certain Refugees
Canada’s special public policy that allowed certain refugees and protected persons to sponsor previously undeclared family members for permanent residence has officially ended.
The policy expired on September 10, 2026, and IRCC has confirmed that it is not being extended at this time.
🔹 WHO IS AFFECTED?
The policy previously provided an opportunity for certain eligible refugees and protected persons to sponsor family members, including:
Spouses and common-law partners.
Dependent children.
Certain family members who were not declared or examined when the sponsor originally applied for permanent residence.
🔹 WHAT HAPPENS TO APPLICATIONS ALREADY SUBMITTED?
Eligible sponsorship applications received on or before September 10, 2026, will continue to be assessed under the expired public policy.
However, family members who were not declared when their sponsor applied for permanent residence will generally no longer qualify for sponsorship under this special policy.
🔹 IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE?
Immigration authorities have indicated that requests for exemptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis through Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) applications.
However, approval is not guaranteed, and each case depends on its individual circumstances.
❤️ WHY THIS MATTERS
Family reunification is an important part of the immigration journey for many refugees and protected persons. Understanding how this policy change affects your family is essential before taking further steps.

🇨🇦 IMPORTANT 2026 UPDATE: MORE TIME TO SUBMIT YOUR LMIA DOCUMENTS

Canada has extended the concurrent-processing period from 60 days to 90 days for certain Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) work permit applications submitted from inside Canada.

👷 What does this mean?

Under concurrent processing, some workers whose current work permit is about to expire can submit their work permit application while their employer’s LMIA application is still being processed.

Eligible applicants now have up to 90 days to provide proof of a positive or neutral LMIA after submitting their work permit application.

📌 To qualify for concurrent processing:

✅ Your work permit expires in 2 weeks or less
✅ Your employer has submitted a complete LMIA application
✅ The LMIA decision has not yet been made
✅ The LMIA application was submitted with enough time for processing

If you apply for your work permit before your current permit expires, you may benefit from maintained status and continue working under the conditions of your existing permit while IRCC processes the application, provided you remain in Canada.

⚠️ Important: This 90-day measure does not apply automatically to every temporary foreign worker. Applicants must meet the specific requirements for concurrent processing.

🇨🇦 If your work permit is approaching expiry, understanding the timing and requirements can be extremely important.

🇨🇦 IMPORTANT 2026 UPDATE: CANADA IS ACCELERATING PR FOR SELECT WORKERS ALREADY IN CANADA

Canada is introducing a one-time initiative to transition up to 33,000 temporary workers to permanent residence in 2026 and 2027. The initiative focuses on workers who are already established in Canada and contributing to communities, particularly in smaller communities and in-demand sectors.

👷 Who is being targeted?

The initiative focuses on eligible workers who:

✅ Are already working in Canada
✅ Have established strong ties to their communities
✅ Are working in selected in-demand sectors
✅ Are contributing to Canada’s economy and labour needs
✅ Meet the requirements of the immigration program through which they applied

The initiative includes applicants connected to programs such as the Provincial Nominee Program, Atlantic Immigration Program, Rural Community Immigration Pilot, Francophone Community Immigration Pilot, caregiver pilots and Agri-Food Pilot.

📌 What does this mean for applicants?

For eligible workers, this initiative could provide an opportunity for their permanent residence application to be processed as part of Canada’s accelerated transition of selected workers already in the country.

⚠️ Important: This is not a new PR pathway open to everyone. Eligibility and available spaces depend on the specific program and IRCC requirements.
