A structured music program that introduces the elements of music exercises the 4 main cognitive skills of attention, memory, perception, and cognitive flexibility. Smart Start teaches children music and how to learn at the same time.

07/21/2026

The best musical learning happens when children are actively engaged.

RCM Smart Start introduces the building blocks of music through experiences that encourage them to sing, move, listen, play, and create. Along the way, they develop the musical understanding, confidence, and musicianship that form the foundation for future learning.

RCM Smart Start is thoughtfully designed to foster cognitive development alongside musical learning, helping children strengthen skills like attention, memory, perception, and cognitive flexibility through engaging, age-appropriate experiences.

See how these essential skills are woven into every lesson. 🎵🧠

Not all early childhood music programs are created equal.

RCM Smart Start is designed differently:
🎵 Age-specific curriculum from birth to age 6
🧠 Activities that develop cognitive and musical skills together
🎓 Highly trained teachers with ongoing professional learning
🏛️ Built on The Royal Conservatory's decades of expertise
🌍 A rich, diverse repertoire that keeps children engaged and inspired

A joyful foundation for learning through music!

"Musical training impacts a set of processes in the brain that are related to a whole host of other activities, from intelligence and reading to the ability to focus and do well in school. When we understood that musical training is beneficial, we set out to learn the exact benefits and limits." Dr. Sylvain Moreno

“Musical activity involves nearly every region of the brain that we know about, and nearly every neural subsystem.” Daniel Levitin, This is Your Brain on Music

Studies show that musically trained children often develop stronger phonological skills. These skills help children learn words faster, build a richer vocabulary, and learn to read sooner.

Through playful, engaging music learning, RCM Smart Start helps support early language development alongside musical growth.
