Alumni of Wolmers Schools in Jamaica serving alumni in Canada. Helping to raise funds to support the schools. The sum of the legacy was 2,360 pounds sterling.

Wolmer’s, the oldest school in the West Indies, was founded on May 21,1729. This was the day JOHN WOLMER made his last will and testament leaving the bulk of his estate for the establishment of a free school in the parish in which he should die. Little is now known of John Wolmer except that he was a goldsmith and had practiced his craft in Kingston for more than twenty years. He was married in our home church, St. Andrew Parish Church, in July 1705. He died in Kingston on June 29,1729.

As an alumni community, we are processing the news of the recent passing of several of our teachers across generations of alumni, who were instrumental in helping to mold us: Nurse Paulette Smith, Mrs Donaldson and Mrs Carberry.

We know they will pass on, however when it comes, it’s challenging to manage. So while we process the grief, we have been sharing our cherished memories (some of them very humorous) and holding each other up.

As we become aware of funeral arrangements, we will share them here.
More anon.
