A star-studded is taking over Toronto and will be among those in the spotlight as their films make their world premieres.

Richie Mehta will debut his latest feature Phoolan, bringing the story of India's 'Bandit Queen' to life. The director says University of Toronto had an immeasurable impact on his filmmaking journey, with diverse disciplines – from art to journalism and cinema history – helping shape his path.

Michael Del Monte's first scripted short film Fight Kid, about a father pressuring his son into a high-stakes MMA match, will screen as part of TIFF's Short Cuts program. The director says his master's in theology and philosophy at gave him the tools to listen to a story or character and excavate the deeper truths underneath the surface.

Mark Selby is a producer of Darlene Love: I Know Where I've Been, a documentary on an underappreciated musical icon. He's thrilled to be able to 'have a full circle moment' and launch the film at a festival he used to volunteer at. He credits his time at U of T for giving him an opportunity to learn from esteemed Cinema Studies faculty and get into his dream industry.
