The Park Songbook - A Retrospective Listen
Friday July 24, 7pm
Aki Studio (585 Dundas Street East)
Join Zorana Sadiq (voice) and Kate Carver (piano) on Friday, July 24th as they unpack The Park Songbook, a very special project supported by Community Music Schools of Toronto (CMST) and Canadian Music Centre.
This project began in 2014 with the aim of creating a wealth of art song repertoire set to lyrics written by our student body. The project commissioned some of Canada's most prominent Canadian composers to write vocal/piano art songs specifically for high school-aged musicians.
Over the six volumes of The Park Song book, composers such as Ian Cusson, Jeffrey Ryan, Monica Pearce, Kelly-Marie Murphy, Chris Thornborrow, Luis Ramirez, Bekah Sims, Alice Ping Yee Ho, Alexina Louie all contributed to the rich tapestry of this repertoire. Zorana and Kate will share some of their favorite selections from over the years, and discuss the ways in which the repertoire provided fulsome tools in which to engage and inspire the next generation of musicians. They will be joined by CMST alumni. A project for the ages!
