Today is International Music Day! Recognized by UNESCO, it is a day to celebrate the diversity of music and its universal power to bring people together. Music transcends borders, cultures, and languages, creating connections and shared experiences. At CMST, we believe in the strength of music to foster belonging and unity in our community.

Earlier this month, CMST staff and faculty had the opportunity to participate in the KAIROS Blanket Exercise led by Jodi Vander Heide-Buswa, as part of our Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan. It was a moving and bonding experience for all of us. On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we acknowledge the injustices that Indigenous families have endured. We also remain committed to our Truth and Reconciliation Plan and paving forward a path of hope and collaboration. To our Indigenous students and families, we see you and celebrate your incredible voices, today and every day!

Welcome Back! The first day of school at CMST is here and we're excited to fill our studios, classrooms and hallways with music, laughter and learning! We're ready for another year of creativity, friendship and creativity as we celebrate the joy of making music together! Wishing our students, faculty and community an incredible year ahead.

We're ready to welcome kids back to CMST with our bright and vibrant new hallway! Thank you to designer Sierra, Stevie and the team at Listen Communications for creating and installing the cheerful and creative new design. Kids taking lessons at Regent Park will walk past these walls every time they come in, leading to smiles and inspiration!

At CMST, we believe that learning is for everyone and literacy takes many forms. Today is International Literacy Day and we celebrate the power of literacy to open doors and create opportunities. Reading music, writing songs, and embracing musical learning helps kids build confidence, develop skills and connect with our community. We're proud to make music education accessible to all in our city.

Our classrooms are getting a little refresh, instruments are being tuned and we're getting ready for another year of making music together! We can't wait to welcome our young musicians back to school when classes at CMST start on September 21. See you soon friends!

In early June, CMST's Regent Park and Jane Finch schools came alive with music, creativity, and collaboration during our 'Many Beats / One Community' celebrations. Over two unforgettable evenings, students shared the stage with renowned guest artists, including Saukrates, Jully Black, Strings From Paris, KUNÉ Global Orchestra, Spirit Wind Hand Drum Group, Thompson Egbo-Ebgo and participants from Dancing With Parkinson's, showcasing the results of learning, mentorship, and artistic partnership throughout the school year.

Thompson Egbo-Egbo joined CMST (then Regent Park School of Music) as a 16-year-old piano student and has remained deeply connected to the organization ever since as an educator, mentor, board member, and supporter. Through his philanthropic foundation, Thompson has supported dozens of CMST students in continuing their music education.

Today is the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. It is day dedicated to protecting Indigenous rights and celebrating Indigenous cultures. CMST strives to honour and celebrate Indigenous cultures through our teaching, learning opportunities and programs.

Yesterday, Toronto Council Fire Native Cultural Centre's 9th Annual Youth Gathering took place in Regent Park. This gathering was a celebration of the vibrant culture, community and youth leadership in Regent Park through traditional drumming, dancing, community celebrations and Indigenous food. CMST was honoured to participate with an information table sharing more about our programs, including our Weekly Drum Circle and to celebrate together.
