Camp Tamakwa is a children’s overnight summer camp in Algonquin Park, Ontario, founded in 1936.

With one of the most diversified outdoor recreational programs available, Tamakwa campers and staff members enjoy 80 years of rich traditions, core values, family atmosphere, and camp spirit, all in a beautiful Algonquin Park setting.

Colour change begins, Lone Pine style. 🍁🦫

Algonquin Park’s fall colour change is underway, but with only about 30% colour change so far, the landscape is still looking pretty green. It’s reminiscent of another very green (albeit far rainier) September, 34 years ago, during the filming of Indian Summer at Tamakwa.

The movie takes place in the fall, but when filming began in September 1992, the leaves hadn’t changed enough. The production team brought in fake trees and fall-coloured leaves as props, moving the trees into the background of scenes to create the autumn look they needed.
Tamakwans who grew up at camp in the ’90s remember finding those fake leaves along the Girls’ Hill path for years afterward. Stringer may even still have a branch tucked away as a souvenir.

Here’s some footage from the filming of Indian Summer. Writer/Director/Tamakwan Mike Binder used real campers and staff alongside the Hollywood actors, including quite a few of today’s Tamakwa parents.

There’s something so special about Family Camp. It’s a chance for Tamakwans to introduce camp to their kids (or significant others, or parents!), for new families to discover Tamakwa for the first time, and for families to experience the magic of camp together.
Nothing quite compares to sharing Tamakwa with the people you love.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a lovely Rosh Hashanah in the Park this weekend. It was wonderful to celebrate together with Tamakwa families and friends over a beautiful dinner.
Camp Coordinator Avi Teich traded in his summer bugle for a fall shofar, sounding it from atop the slope as we enjoyed a magical fall weekend in Algonquin and welcomed the new year together.

Camp isn’t just for kids. 💚

Not For Kids Only returns September 18–20 for a three-day, two-night, all-inclusive weekend at Tamakwa, just for adults.

Come back to South Tea for great food, campfires, time with friends, snacks, evening programs and live music Saturday night from funk rock band PorchJam.

The weekend is yours to make what you want of it. Fill your days, take it easy, reconnect with old friends or bring someone new along for their first Tamakwa experience.

Summer 2026 has officially begun!

As campers settle into life at Tamakwa, we'll be stepping back from social media for the summer.

For generations, camp has been a place where kids can simply be kids. A place where conversations happen face-to-face, days are spent outdoors, and memories are made far from screens.

At Tamakwa, both campers and staff disconnect from technology and immerse themselves in nature, friendships, adventure, and all the experiences that make a Tamakwa summer so special.

To our families, alumni, and friends, thank you for being part of the Tamakwa community. Have a wonderful summer, and we'll see you back here in the fall.

We're running towards the finish line. It's almost here!

The campsite is ready... but it isn't Tamakwa without the campers.
In two days, South Tea will come alive with familiar faces, first-time arrivals, cabin reunions, and the campers who turn our campsite into a children's village in the heart of Algonquin Park.
