Massey College
Where people and ideas intersect. Massey College is a graduate residential college in the University of Toronto.
It was established in 1962 and the building opened in 1963. The college admits Junior Fellows from the university's School of Graduate Studies and the U of T's graduate professional programs. About 60 live at the college, with another 70 or so affiliated as non-resident Junior Fellows. Senior Fellows are selected from the world of academia, with some serving on the corporation that governs the college. The college is also home to the Canadian Journalism Fellowships.
Author Suzanne Simard joined Dr. James Orbinski at Massey College for the Ramsay/Massey Breakfast, where they discussed her new book, When the Forest Breathes: Renewal and Resilience in the Natural World. Drawing on decades of groundbreaking research, Simard reflected on how her work has transformed our understanding of forests as interconnected living systems, linked through networks of trees, fungi, and soil. In conversation with Dr. Orbinski, she explored themes of cooperation, resilience, and renewal in nature, emphasizing how these hidden relationships sustain forest ecosystems and offer lessons for the broader world. A wonderful afternoon at Massey College celebrating the launch of Carve → Print → Colour → Cover at the Robertson Davies Library
This event was a collaboration between the Massey Arts Society and the Robertson Davies Library. The exhibition highlights the remarkable work of Bascove and her iconic book covers for Robertson Davies, bringing together art, literature, and the craft of the book in a compelling way
Guests enjoyed a lively and welcoming atmosphere and clearly had fun mingling over drinks and refreshments. We were so pleasantly surprised to have among our guests Douglas Gibson, Robertson Davies’s editor, who is also a Massey quadrangler.
Many thanks to curator Sara Fackrell for her thoughtful vision and for sharing insights into the making of the exhibition and to all who joined us this afternoon.

The Walter Gordon Symposium 2026 is returning this year with a timely and urgent focus: Rethinking Canada’s Affordability Crisis: Cross Sectoral Perspectives, Challenges, and Solutions.
As the rising cost of living continues to impact communities across Canada and beyond, ensuring access to housing, food security, and healthcare remains at the forefront of public policy discussions. At the same time, these challenges are shaped by broader global forces from supply chain disruptions to geopolitical tensions and the climate crisis, deepening existing socio economic inequalities.
Hosted by the Public Policy Program at Massey College in collaboration with the University of Toronto - Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, this year’s symposium will convene policymakers, community leaders, academics, and individuals with lived and living experience.
Together, participants will move beyond discussion to co develop meaningful, evidence based solutions to one of the most pressing issues of our time.
The symposium will feature three panels focused on housing, food security, and healthcare, moderated by Junior Fellows James Lautens, Benjamin Rabishaw, and Renée Sirbu Sirbu.
Location: Massey College, University of Toronto. Hybrid event with livestream available.
