Each year, a significant number of pharmacy students express interest in learning more about particular areas of pharmacy practice. Although there is exposure to various fields through the undergraduate curriculum, most students find it insufficient to help them decide on their future career paths. Thus, practicing pharmacists are invaluable resources of experience and knowledge for these students. The Pharmacy Mentorship Program (PMP) team is comprised of pharmacy students attending Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at University of Toronto. Our team recruits experienced pharmacists as mentors, organizes the student-mentor matches, and plans out events for students. These include a 'Career Night' and a 'Meet-and-Greet' event, where students can network with mentors as well as other peers. For each match, the student and mentor will complete two modules, primarily through e-mail. The modules are set to engage pharmacy students in multiple mini-interviews with a pharmacist mentor. Volunteer pharmacist mentors across Ontario, are willing to share their experiences in their careers with the future generation of pharmacists. Students will be introduced to the role of a his/her pharmacist of interest in Ontario, develop an understanding of pharmacy practice in the community, hospital, or industry settings, as well as gain insights in how to become a successful pharmacist in the future.
