What are SOME of the benefits of home-based childcare?

Low-ratios
Continuity of care
Safe and calm environment
Knowledgable providers
Quality, home cooked meals
A play-based program tailored to YOUR child's interests, and needs.

What do you value most when seeking ideal care for your child?

It is important to note that no home daycare in Ontario is licensed but can be perceived as being licensed if they become affiliated with an agency. This comes at a substantial cost to the provider, up to 30% of their income. ICPs instead choose to remain independent and invest back into their program. The Coalition of Independent Childcare Providers of Ontario (CICPO) advocated for individual licensing at a reasonable fee or at minimum a registry but were denied by the current Ontario government.

The Secret to Getting out the Door with a Resistant Child 04/11/2018

Something we can all relate to. Those tricky transitions with the little ones. Anxiety sets in as we have to reconcile the guilt we feel for rushing them, and our responsibility to stay on a schedule. Take a listen to the podcast within the article to help understand separation anxiety, how to support your children through validating their feelings- and get out the door with respect and dignity.

The Secret to Getting out the Door with a Resistant Child It’s time to go, but our child says no. We’ve tried explaining, coaxing, bribing, scolding. We’ve given choices, played games, filled our child’s cup with attention and quality time. We’ve even tried half-heartedly acknowledging, “I know you don’t want to...

Documentary 'The Beginning of Life' - official trailer 05/07/2017

I am re-watching this documentary because I just can't get enough of it. I invite you to do the same. The full documentary and a series are available on Netflix. In particular, I encourage you to watch Episode 3: Free to Learn. It is full of insight on play, cognitive and language development. It is brilliant, and sums up exactly why this is not just my 'living', its my life!

wait, observe, wait...
She knows a lot about physics already! A child's work is play. Experimenting, and exploring cause and effect, she develops an understanding of the properties of the objects in the world. She is able to predict (as she demonstrates here), and determine the boundaries of her actions. Part of what a child needs to fully understand these properties, is access to them! In a home environment, there is a variety of materials, including things that break. I encourage the children to engage with everything and anything in the space, with careful supervision of course. They are very capable of gentle, careful handling when they are given the opportunity. This also helps them develop a sense of spacial awareness, and develop fine motor skills. When we stop and watch, there is so much more then 'just' play!
