Happy International from the Camiigo team! πŸ‘•πŸ•οΈπŸ™Œ

What is this day exactly? Camp T-Shirt Day is a unique occasion for the global camp community to come together, and celebrate camp by showing off their love for camp.

Campers can either purchase a camp t-shirt from their camp store, or receive one when they start or finish their session. Every camp is different!

It's almost winter, so what better way to reminisce about the good old camp days and wear something with pride!

Camp is either nearing its end or has already wrapped up for some, and we understand that this transition can be challenging for both children and parents. However, as the quote suggests, we're confident that the time spent at camp has helped children grow significantly, making them more confident, resilient, and ready to tackle the upcoming school year!

Benefits of summer camp for children: making new friends
πŸ‘§πŸΎ πŸ’¬ πŸ‘¦πŸΌ

It's tricky for your child to establish friendships when there's a screen in each child's face, but camp provides an environment where building relationships is at the core of it's values (and no screens for miles around!)

An article written by Audrey Monke got us saying "COULDN'T AGREE MORE" by the time we finished reading!

We're not sure who said this, but we couldn't agree more! πŸ’―

As summer camp winds down (say it isn't so!), campers will likely have formed new friendships or renewed connections with friends they see only at camp.

Although technology can sometimes be used in ways that aren't ideal, we hope it can also serve a positive purpose by helping campers stay in touch with their friends as the summer comes to a close.

It's natural for parents to be concerned about their child's experience at camp, particularly if it's their first time. Camp Directors recognize that sending your child to a remote location can be intimidating and may leave you feeling unsure about their happiness.

Although summer camp aims to foster independence and self-confidence in your child without parental presence, every camp has methods in place to reassure you that your child is thriving.

Here are some ways camps keep parents informed:

✍️Hand Written Letters: These are written by your child. Counsellors will work with your child to create a special message for you, sharing how wonderful their camp experience has been so far.

πŸ“§ Email Updates: Camp staff will provide updates on your child’s progress at camp. These updates may come as a personal, one-on-one email to you or as a general message to all campers parents.

πŸ“Έ Photos of Campers: These pictures enjoying their time at camp may be shared through email, on social media, and through other channels.

☎️ Phone Calls: Some camps might call you from their office phone to provide an update on your child's well-being. Younger campers typically get an opportunity to call home too. This can be a lovely way to connect.

πŸ‘‹ Visitor Days: On these very special days, parents get the opportunity to visit their child at camp during the summer! Visitor days are usually available for parents whose children are enrolled in longer camp sessions.

Benefits of summer camp for children: Time in nature 🌳 🌊 😌

There are so many positive benefits for your child to step away from their screens and into the outdoors, and at summer camp, you experience nature everyday!

We also felt inspired by Child Mind Institute 2023 article "Why Kids Need To Spend Time In Nature"
It's a 5 minute read and we recommend checking it out (and then stepping outside for a screen break!!)

We couldn't agree more! Jonathan Haidt is a social psychologist and his work is inspiration to what we do. In a recent podcast, Jonathan speaks about how "summer camp is the best way for a child to detox from smartphones and social media". Check out the clip here: https://www.instagram.com/p/C8c1bNNuiQR/

Author of the book "The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness", we continue to follow all of his work to inform our parents why summer camp is a great place to unplug for their child and connect with other children.
