A distinguished musician, leader, and person, we send condolences to family, friends, and colleagues of grad Geoff Nuttall (BMusPerf 1988).

Geoff Nuttall, 1st violinist of the St. Lawrence String Quartet, dead at 56 | CBC Music The New York Times called him 'chamber music's Jon Stewart' for his charisma and sense of humour. A former colleague says ‘his dynamic presence was awe-inspiring.’

Congratulations to composer Dr. Cecilia Livingston (DMA ’15, MMus ’10, BMus ’08) who joins the Canadian Opera Company as their new Composer-in-Residence for a two-year residency—amazing news! 🎵 🎉

🎵 Cecilia Livingston is the new COC Composer-in-Residence! 🎵

Joining the COC for a two-year residency, Livingston is an award-winning British-Canadian composer specializing in music for voice. Throughout her residency, she will work closely with the company’s leadership group, produce a new artistic project showcasing her unique abilities, and collaborate with the Ensemble Studio on creative endeavours.

“It means the world to me to come home to Canada and make an ambitious new work with our national opera company,” says Livingston. “I admire the COC’s leadership in supporting Canadian artists on its international stage, and I’m thrilled to collaborate with the premiere presenter of live opera in this country.”
