Last week, we celebrated the arrival of the EduHK (The Education University of Hong Kong) students with an orientation session.
The students are part of our customized teacher training program and will be with the school for 15 weeks.

Dennis N. York, associate director of digital and experiential education at the York University School of Continuing Studies, was the recent recipient of the We Rise Together Award in Innovation from the Duolingo English Test for the School’s animated instructional video series, “Not So Far From Home: Canadian Culture Series”.
Duolingo’s We Rise Together Awards recognize the work of individuals and organizations that help reduce barriers to learning and improve student access to education.

Last week, our students from KGU (Kobe Gakuin University) had an unforgettable time at the School of Continuing Studies building launch!
They had the chance to meet and chat with amazing people, including Anishinaabe Cultural Consultant, Kim Wheatley, who delivered a beautiful Blessing of the Land, and Canadian athlete Perdita Felicien, who inspired everyone with her motivational message.
What a fantastic opportunity for our students to practice their English and connect with remarkable individuals!

Francesca Boschetti, PhD, Manager, English for Academic Purposes (EAP), has been awarded the Globally Networked Learning (GNL) Award 2022-23 from York International for the second year in a row.
The funding received through the award will go towards enhancing the Graduate Studies Preparation Program (GSPP) collaboration with Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) in the Dominican Republic.

On March 20, 2023, the Graduate Studies Preparation Program students successfully completed a 6-week training on Effective Intercultural Communication.
This remarkable achievement is worth celebrating!
Throughout the program, the students gained a deep understanding of intercultural communication and engaged in various group and self-reflective activities. The program was made possible by the valuable partnership with York International.

At the end of last session, the Academic Program Level 5 class had a wonderful surprise guest!
Baiyue (Will) Wen flew from Los Angeles to Toronto to attend his final class. He had been taking the AP 5 class online for the past 8 weeks from his current home in Los Angeles. However, Baiyue wished to show his respect for his teacher, classmates and the learning process by attending his final speaking presentation in person.
Thank you, Baiyue, for flying to Toronto to see us. We hope to see you again here in Toronto soon!

Early this week, during our Spring Break Immersion Program, students gave presentations on iconic Canadian foods as part of the Canadian Culture Series workshops.
They explained the history, origin, and ingredients of these beloved dishes to their classmates and, best of all, got to taste the delicious delights of butter tarts and nanaimo bars – Canadian classics!

This week marked the beginning of our Spring Break Immersion Program at the English Language Institute, and we are delighted to welcome 54 students from various schools in Japan.
Over the next three weeks, our students will immerse themselves in an intensive English language learning experience.
Our team, including Program Manager David Hazell, Associate Director James Papple, Program Assistant Wanheng Zhou (Hana), and conversational leaders, hosted an orientation to welcome our new cohort.
We look forward to sharing the progress and experiences of our students throughout this program.

This Winter marks a full year of collaborations between our Graduate Studies Preparation Program (GSPP) and Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in the Dominican Republic.
We have once again offered a Globally Networked Learning (GNL) project for our students. Through a virtual exchange, our students had a wonderful time interacting and networking with peers in the Dominican Republic while enhancing their English skills!
