We are thrilled to welcome Madeleine Salhany (@.salhany), who will be creating a new work for this year’s WINTERSONG season.
Madeleine is a Canadian dancer and choreographer currently performing with Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal under the artistic direction of Alexandra Damiani.
After graduating from the BFA program at the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase in New York, she went on to work professionally in Germany for four years with Tanzcompagnie Gießen and Ballett Theater Trier. During this time, she deepened her artistic voice within the European contemporary dance scene and expanded her performance repertoire across a variety of international stages. Throughout her career, Madeleine has performed works by acclaimed choreographers including Ohad Naharin, Fernando Melo, Jo Strømgren, Gustavo Ramírez Sansano, Andonis Foniadakis, Mauro Astolfi, Georg Reischl, Sidra Bell, Ana Maria Lucaciu, Marne van Opstal, and Itzik Galili. Recently, she has been involved as a Rehearsal Director and Creative Collaborator with Canadian Choreographer Emma Portner, most notably assisting Portner with her new creation Megahertz at Bayerisches Staatsballett (2025).
Alongside her performance career, Madeleine has continued to develop her choreographic practice, creating work for both emerging and professional dancers. In 2020, she began her choreographic career receiving the opportunity to share her work Envie, produced at Purchase College, at TDH Dance Festival in New York City. With Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, she created Second First Time (2024) and Bleached Eyes (2025) for the company’s annual BJMLab. She has also committed time to working with emerging dancers, creating several graduating senior solos for university dancers as well as having a deeply successful career in competition choreography. Passionate about mentorship, Madeleine is dedicated to guiding and inspiring the next generation of dancers while continuing to expand her own artistic practice.
