Last week, our July 20-24th campers taught the audience all about COURAGE by bringing our 7 Step Sparx Courage List to life! From stepping outside their comfort zones to performing in front of a cheering crowd, they proved that courage isn't about never feeling nervous... it's about giving it a try anyway! 💪🏼🧠

One of my favourite parts of our Friday camp showcases has been meeting so many wonderful families and getting to share my very first children's book with them after! ❤️

Week 2 campers....AHH-MAZING! 💥💥

Last week had its challenges with the heat wave and smoke advisory. However, you wouldn't have known if you saw these kiddos! They absolutely crushed it all week long and had no problem being indoors more of the week. Bravo to them and please enjoy some photos from their performances on Friday!

SAFETY/ROLE MODEL TIP:
“I Don’t Want to Mess Up My Hair”

We often hear children complain about wearing a helmet, but surprisingly, one of the most common reasons ADULTS give for skipping one is: “I don’t want to mess up my hair.”

If your child wears a helmet, that's fantastic! But what message are we sending when we choose not to wear one ourselves?

Children learn far more from what we do than what we say. When they see adults riding without helmets, they may begin to believe that helmets are only for kids and that safety becomes optional as they get older.

The reality is that accidents can happen to anyone. Even experienced cyclists can't control every situation on the road. Cars, pedestrians, uneven pavement, animals, and unexpected obstacles can appear in an instant. You could be an Olympic-level cyclist and still experience a serious fall.

Sparx parent and SickKids Pediatric nurse Lindsay Simon shared:

"I seen firsthand how a simple helmet can prevent a life-changing injury. We're seeing more children riding faster bikes and motorized scooters than ever before, and with that has come an increase in serious head injuries. The good news is that wearing a properly fitted helmet dramatically reduces that risk."

A helmet may not save your hairstyle, but it could save you from a life-changing injury.

Do yourself and your child a favour. Show them that safety comes first, no matter your age. Put on the helmet, set the example, and help create habits that can last a lifetime.
