After months of research, collaboration, and iteration, 37 student teams from public and independent schools across the GTA and beyond presented their solutions to improve global access to clean drinking water at this year’s Global Ideas Institute Final Symposium, working alongside Munk School undergraduate and graduate student mentors, faculty, and expert practitioners.
Through the program, students strengthened their research, collaboration, and problem-solving skills while gaining hands-on experience tackling complex global challenges and turning ideas into actionable solutions.
Thank you to our 77 volunteer mentors, subject matter experts, partners at UTS and everyone who supported our largest GII cohort to date. Mentors played a vital role in guiding teams and helping students put classroom learning into action.
The 2026–27 GII Program Team is already preparing next year’s challenge topic, stay tuned, and we hope you’ll join us.

Last Friday, 30 graduating Master of Public Policy (MPP) and Master of Global Affairs (MGA) students from the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy had the opportunity to volunteer at Canada 2020’s 20th Anniversary Gala, an evening with President Barack Obama.
Students supported the event through registration and guest services, providing them with a unique opportunity to engage with leaders, partners and supporters connected to Canada 2020’s work.
Following their volunteer shifts, students were able to join the Gala event and hear the keynote discussion between President Barack Obama and Diana Carney. Their conversation reflected on leadership, democracy, and public service, while highlighting the importance of collaboration in addressing today’s global challenges.
Experiences like these give students valuable opportunities to witness important public conversations and connect with leaders and communities beyond the classroom. Thank you to Canada2020 for inviting our students to participate in such a meaningful way. One student even remarked on their experience, saying: “It was a perfect way to cap off the degree. I had an incredible experience and will never forget it.”

Public policy is critical today and so is the way we prepare students for it.
The Munk School is strengthening the Public
Policy & Governance (PPG) program with
multidisciplinary courses, experiential learning and updated electives that let students take courses across other Munk School programs.
Why it matters:
• A richer interdisciplinary approach to teaching
• Expanded experiential, hands-on learning
beyond the classroom
• Greater flexibility for intellectual exploration
Join a program designed to connect ideas, practice, and curiosity
