This year we've invited Henry Wong, CPA, CA to join the School Tours.
Henry works with families on the question most of us put off until the acceptance letter arrives: how are we actually going to pay for all of this?
A note from Henry~
Private school, then a top university. Add it up and many families are looking at close to a million dollars per child. Most parents pay for it the same way: out of income, out of savings, and out of borrowing. It works. But the money leaves once and never comes back.
I am a CPA, but not the kind who files returns. I help families build a structure so education is funded from a system, not from this year's paycheque.
Three things worth doing before your child applies:
1. Decide who pays, and from where, before you decide where they apply. The school choice gets easier once the money question is already answered.
2. Look at how you are paying, not just how much. Cash, borrowing, and building something that stays in the family after the tuition is paid are very different paths to the same bill.
3. Start earlier than feels necessary. Grade 9 is not too early. The application year is too late to change much.
