Butterbean got to experience the outdoors for the first time today! She was VERY unsure of everything at first and hung onto me for a long time. Then, she explored the garden and eventually realized that trees were where she belonged.

That rare moment when your kids are all getting along.🐕🐩🐈‍⬛🐈

Look who’s growing up so fast! Butterbean has opened her eyes and is moving around. She still can’t stand up on her legs in the typical squirrel stance, but she’s trying. Along with her formula she’s also eating walnuts, sunflower seeds, and special protein cookies that I made for her.❤️

The green is giving way to yellow, the leaves are falling, the seeds are ready to be picked for next year. This is summer’s swan song, and I’m ready for it.🍃🍁🍂

Oh, Heidi Plume, it’s not safe time to look like a turkey! Hopefully your molt will be over soon and you’ll be back to looking like your fabulous self!

Introducing Herbie, the sweetest little Green Cheek Conure in the world! He came to live with us the day before we left for Quebec. His previous owner couldn't spend the time this loving and intelligent little guy needed, so we took him in.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He's already gone camping with us all over Quebec, experienced the beach, and bathed in a gentle waterfall in Gaspé.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Photos 4 and 5 are of us in the truck on the way to Quebec with Herbie in his travel cage, and all of us taking our traditional photo in front of the campground sign right before we left Gaspé. You'll see two cats, two dogs, Herbie, two kids, and my husband who loves our crazy life as much as I do!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Herbie is such a character and I can't wait to share more of his awesome personality here.

Summers always end the same way for me - a mad rush to pack in everything that we had planned. It's been a great summer, but I'm glad to take a much slower pace as fall approaches.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My kids went back to school today...WOOHOO! Now to get to all the personal projects I've had on hold for the last 17 months!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The garden has been neglected and has been taken over by Morning Glories. This is when I give up and let them take over and have their moment. They're really pretty anyway.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I haven't been able to spend quality time with my hens. I know they're well-cared for, but I still feel guilty. I'm going to have to make up for it in the coming weeks! For now, some "I'm sorry" treats and a quick chat will have to do.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fall, I'm looking forward to you BIG TIME! Anyone else?

The first question I was asked during the Blooms and Berries event for the City of Mississauga was why I'm so inspired to have chickens. I get asked that question A LOT!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So far, of all the times I've answered this question, I like this version the best!

Hello September! Am I ready for you? NOPE! Still wishing it was August and we were back in beautiful Québec. Being disconnected from social while deeply connected with each other was exactly what we needed most.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Quebec, you stole my heart...again! We visited Old Québec City, Bas Saint Laurent, and Gaspé. Here are only 10 of the 1000s of photos we took along the way.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Finding chickens everywhere I go! (Art by Gagnon, Coq Lumière, la galerie d’Art Perreault)
2. My favourite person in my favourite part of Old Québec City.
3. Kayaking in Bas Saint Laurent.
4. Driving to Percé Rock.
5. Breathtaking views in Percé.
6. Tasting (and buying) the best gin at a local distillery in Gaspé.
7. Fishing for mackerel in Gaspé...we caught 13!
8. Touring the Onondaga submarine in Rimouski.
9. Having THE BEST ice cream in Old Québec City.
10. Celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary with my best friend, travel buddy, and husband on our last day in Québec.

Good morning Gaspé, Quebec.

August has been our month of rest. We’ve been touring beautiful Quebec and thankfully had spotty wifi along the way. First stop was Quebec City, now Bas Saint Laurent, then off to Gaspé in our trailer. What a beautiful country we live in!🇨🇦❤️
