Meet the 10th Mubina Jiwa Memorial Scholarship winner Portchia Sedlezky-Anselmo, from the Toronto campus Class of 2029:

“Dear Friends of the Mubina Jiwa Memorial Scholarship,
I am incredibly grateful for this generous donation. Dr. Mubina Jiwa's story deeply impacted me, as I, too, have a personal experience with cancer. It is ultimately the reason I am pursuing a career in naturopathic medicine. I have never felt more passionate about anything in my life. My dream is to help others gain autonomy over their health. Given how rigorous this program is, I had to quit my job to focus on my studies, so this scholarship is helping me more than you know. I will absolutely pay this forward - thank you so much. Nova Scotia has reached a significant milestone for the naturopathic profession. As of May 27, 2026, naturopathic doctors in the province are officially regulated under the Regulated Health Professions Act, establishing formal standards for licensing, professional conduct, and public accountability. This is a meaningful step forward for patients and practitioners alike.
