Winnipeg Transit union supporters hand out donuts, gift cards to bus drivers 05/23/2015

The publics support is so important in these types of negotiations. It is a powerful message to the employer and give City Council a first hand view of the state of public opinion. And today, they have a tentative deal.

Vote “yes” in the transit referendum to defend the right to mobility 05/22/2015

This is one of many good reasons to vote "YES" and properly fund all forms of transit. A good Special Needs transit system literally changes the lives for some citizens with limited mobility and allows for a more inclusive society.

It is too bad Canada does not have a national Canadian Transit Strategy and we have to go to referendum's, but doing nothing will hurt the most vulnerable the most. Students, the elderly, people with disabilities, the underemployed and low income families spend hours a day on a bus, if they can get one at all. Some have to travel to two or three part time jobs a day or spend hours going to medical appointments.

A healthy transit systems makes for a healthy society.

Transit routes cancelled as labour strife deepens 05/20/2015

This articles questions whether transit should be an essential service. I agree its very important but essential begs the question, how can Saskatoon, Guelph and Moncton all lock out their employees and shut down the entire system at a time of their choosing if the service is essential?

The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that Unions and Collective Bargaining are entrenched in our Charter of Rights. They also ruled that the Saskatchewan Government violated that Charter when they legislated all kinds of operations essential to strip unions of their right to the bargaining process.

The very question must have the legal community salivating in anticipation.
